A new year's resolution for you and your dog

A new year's resolution for you and your dog

January is often seen as a time to start fresh and make resolutions for the new year. So, what's one easy resolution that can benefit BOTH you and your pup? Committing to walking your dog more regularly! And what better time to start than during "Walk Your Dog Month"?

Walking your dog more regularly can help prevent boredom and the behavior that often stems from boredom. It's also an opportunity for you to bond with your dog and get some exercise yourself - because who needs a gym membership when you have a dog?!

So, how long should you walk your dog each day? A general rule of thumb is that dogs should get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day, but this can of course vary depending on their breed, size, age, and overall health.

Looking for some motivation to get you started? ✨ Here is the sign you've been looking for ✨

First, make sure you have all the necessary supplies, such as a sturdy leash, a dispenser filled with poop bags, and a comfortable pair of shoes or boots. Next, consider your dog's needs, energy levels, age and health. Are they comfortable walking long distances or prefer shorter, more frequent walks? Always include their needs in your decision process.

Once you have a plan in place, try to stick to a regular walking schedule. Your dog will be looking forward to it when it becomes a regular part of both your routines. You can even switch things up by snapping some cute photos of them, exploring different routes or taking your dog to a nearby park.

Feeling adventurous? Try going for a "sniffari"! A sniffari is a walk where you let your dog lead the way and decide where to go next, allowing them to determine the route while they follow their nose. Let them take their time and stop to smell the flowers or the fire hydrants. The benefits of sniffaris include discovering new places, allowing your dog to explore the world at their pace, and you'll have an extra tired pup since it'll be much more stimulating for them.

In addition to the physical benefits, walking your dog can also have emotional and social benefits. It's a great way to spend a little more time in nature and escape the WFH routine. It's also a great way to meet other dog owners in your community, meet the team at your local pet supply store, and allow your dog to socialize with other dogs.

So why wait? Yes, it's January and baby, it's cold outside, but why not tackle that new year's resolution together? We believe in you.
